latest updates on Bex
Last updated 22/7/06
| 23rd May | Today Bex received his operation to be neutered. All went well and he was collected by Beth around 5pm from the Vet, a little groggy but O.K. several vets agreed that he would be fine to fly to Gail's place in QLD the next day. |

| 24th May | 9am: Gail leaves for the airport to collect Bex. very
excited awaiting his arrival. 9.30: Beth check's him onto the flight. wishing him a safe trip, waiting news from Gail. 11am Bex's plane takes off - onward bound for his new home. app: 12pm: plane touches down, Gail walked up to him and he recognised her straight away. On the way home Bex is introduced to Rob, his new Dad. Gail and Bex arrive home, he is introduced to her dogs and horses, he wasn't sure why they were bigger than him? Gail settled Bex down with a nice feed. That is where we leave Bex for the moment until further updates. |

| 26th May | Vet visit re:eyes. Bex's eyes can't be fixed BUT they can't get any worse & may even improve slightly. He has endothelial dystrophy, (poss due to the inbreeding) Bex has some drops for 2-3 weeks, it may ir may not remove the excess fluid. If not there is an operation that welds the layers of the cornea together & stop the build up from reoccurring. There is no cure' all forms of treatments have variable results. Bex has a secure future as is, with the possibility of improvement. I've to take him back on the 16th June & we'll make a decision then. I'll keep you all up to date. Gail |

| 27th June | Bex is doing really well. He loves the kids, follows them around like an oversized shadow. The eye drops proved to be too difficult, I felt forcing the issue would do more harm to our bonding. So we decided to go ahead with the operation. Bex went in on the 14/6, only to get 2/3 of his right eye done before the machine broke down!!! We are now waiting for it to be fixed and continue to do the rest. He is a beautiful boy and has bonded up to Macbeth (our Leo) & Jess (our wolfhound X) even better than we could have hoped for. He is an absolute gentleman around the horses & behaves as if he has been around livestock all his life. We have noticed Bex has only around 30% hearing as well as his sight problem & we also suspect a slight weakness in the hips, not too bad. None of this seems to affect his enjoyment of his new life. |
